What randomization means

Randomization means a computer decides, by chance, which group each person joins — like flipping a coin. This keeps the groups similar, so the comparison between them is fair.

What a placebo is

A placebo looks like the treatment but has no active medicine in it. Comparing the treatment with a placebo helps show whether the treatment itself is really making a difference.

Will I be told?

The consent process should explain if a study uses randomization or a placebo before you decide. You have a right to ask how likely each group is and what it would mean for you.
